Here is some background information

As many of us do, I went to college following High School and was working on a B.S. Degree in Music Education K-12.  I had studied music all my life and was passionate about sharing the gift of music with others by becoming a music educator.

We graduate from college… So then what?

After college, I got married and I did a lot of substitute teaching in the school district because there was not an opening as a music teacher.  I also taught private music lessons in my home.  Being a substitute teacher, teaching classes in all different subjects for someone else is not what I went to college for.

Now I am a Mom with two children

When our second child was born I decided to go full time with my music teaching.  At one time I had 68 students.  Thinking back on that I don’t know how I fit them all into my schedule.

I moved in 2000 closer to Minneapolis and St. Paul and I started the Music Masters of Chanhassen school out of my home.  Later my daughter-in-law joined me in the studio and it was great teaching in an environment with another teacher.

Finding a new path to follow

Six years before the Covid-19 pandemic came to the United States I had started giving the private lessons using Zoom.  I had heard about zoom and decided it would be a great option for when the roads were icy or we were having a blizzard.  The students could stay home and still have their lesson.  Another benefit to my parents was if they got tied up at work and didn’t have time to go pick up their children to bring them to lessons.

So when other teachers were wondering what they were going to do in order to keep teaching their students during the pandemic – I just kept doing the lessons over zoom.

How important my decision was for my future

All those decisions played an important role in what I am doing now.  I like the flexibility of being able to teach in-studio or the option to teach online.

A new location but keeping my existing clients

If I move to a different location in the future I don’t have to lose the students I have because they can remain my students using zoom.
